Pleistocene Infraspecific Evolution in Juniperus Ashei Buch
The Pleistocene and recent distributions of the taxa are discussed. A new variety of Juniperus ashei, J. ashei Buch. var. ovata R. P. Adams is recognized from west Texas and northern Mexico. It differs from typical J. ashei in having whip leaf glands that are oval to elongate rather than hemispherical, smaller female cones, smaller seeds and more seeds per cone. In addition, the leaf oil of var...
متن کاملCryptic speciation between Juniperus deltoides and Juniperus oxycedrus (Cupressaceae) in the Mediterranean
Analyses of individuals classically treated as Juniperus oxycedrus L. var. oxycedrus from Morocco, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey, using DNA sequencing of nrDNA (ITS 1, 5.8S, ITS 2) plus RAPDs, leaf terpenoids and morphology revealed that two cryptic, genetically distinct but morphologically almost identical species are present. These species, J. oxycedrus L. var. oxycedrus a...
متن کاملJuniperus Compacta ( Cupressaceae ) a New Species from Mexico
Recent nrDNA and trnC-trnD sequence data revealed that J. monticola and J. m. f. compacta are not monophyletic, and this prompted additional research using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). The SNPs data clearly show that J. monticola f. compacta is not conspecific with J. monticola f. monticola. Juniperus monticola f. compacta Mart. is raised to the specific level as: Juniperus compacta ...
متن کاملVARIATION IN JUNIPERUS DURANGENSIS AND RELATED JUNIPERS (CUPRESSACEAE): ANALYSIS OF nrDNA AND petN SNPs
Recent discovery of a low shrub from Topia, in the state of Durango, Mexico that appears similar to both J. durangensis and J. jaliscana, prompted the analyses of nrDNA and petN-psbM (cpDNA) SNPs. The plants from Topia differed from J. durangensis by 2 indels but were shown to be closely related as shown in a minimum spanning network. Phytologia 91(2): 353-358 (August, 2009).
متن کاملThe Genus Juniperus (cupressaceae) in Mexico and Guatemala: Umerical and Morphological Analysts
The genus Juniperus (Cupressaceae) consists of approximately GO species distributed in the orthern Hemisphere, except for J.yrocera Hocll. which extends into the Southern Hemisphere in Africa (Florin, 1963). The delimitation of the species of Juniperus is difficult in all of the world; few taxonomic studies have encompassed any large geographical or natural province. Gaussen (1968) lists 99 spe...
